gSpatial Toolbar assumes that you already have Google Earth installed. Google Earth is a separate download that you have to download from Google's site. After downloading the Google Earth installation, you should run its setup program. gSpatial Toolbar will not function properly if you don't have Google Earth installed. 

Because of the above dependency on Google Earth, you also have to have an active Internet connection while using gSpatial toolbar. Google Earth requires an Internet connection to download its imagery.

gSpatial Toolbar's installation file is contained in the ZIP file you downloaded and is called Setup.exe. This is an executable file, which will copy all the program components to their appropriate locations.

To run Setup.exe, you have to have security permissions to install programs. This is often a problem in corporate environments, where your IT department may restrict you from being able to install programs. If you get error messages during installation, security and permissions are most likely the problem. To rectify this, either log on to your computer as a user with administrative rights, or contact your IT department so that they can run Setup.exe on your behalf.

The gSpatial toolbar is installed to the Application data folder for your user. This is usually but not always found in c:\Documents and Settings\[your user name]. If your user name is for example John, gSpatial will be installed to the following folder: C:\Documents and Settings\john\Application Data\relogix\gspatial

Beneath the abovementioned folder is a subfolder called sampledata (so in the above example it will be C:\Documents and Settings\john\Application Data\relogix\gspatial\sampledata) in which the installation process installs example shapefile data. This is public domain data for South Africa and contains its provinces and road network. The intention of gSpatial is however that you use your own shapefiles. You can place these anywhere on your hard disk or on a shared drive.
